Things I have to Thank For this Thanksgiving Day!

Thanksgiving Day is one of the most important holidays celebrated in the United States. It usually falls every 4th Thursday of November and denotes the end of harvest season. This is the time when people would celebrate the many benefits that they have received for the entire year.

This is also considered as an American Federal Holiday, where Americans celebrate this day to bond with their loved ones and be able to express their thanks to all of their possessions, material or spiritual.

From my precious life to the everyday strength that God has given me, I just got so many things to thank for. In addition to the good health of my entire family and steady job, I would like to also thank the Almighty for that we have ended the election peacefully and we now have a new president. I would like to also thank our brave soldiers who are continuously laying their lives in performing their duties.

All these and a simple prayer of hope and continuous guidance plus a special dinner with my family will definitely make my day and the rest of the year truly complete. =)

One Good News to Share

To be updated with the bits and pieces of the world, I created an alert about the US veterans and our politics. While I can say that I’m a bit tired of reading news about the recent election, I still feel that it is one of the many obvious ways to be able to know what the future has in store for an ordinary individual like me.

As I go along reading some news, I realized that I seldom read news that has good news on it. There may be some exciting, funny and a lot of irritating news but hardly ever good news about our men in uniforms. Well… of course, I must exclude those that have died in Iraq and other scenarios. President Obama has a lot of great plans to our veterans and that’s really exciting to hear.

I just visited the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and got one good news to share. Here’s an excerpt.

Celebrate Veteran’s Day

We finally have a new President. For me, the word “new” means “something to look forward to”. It is something we don’t exactly know yet we are aware that something good is in store for us.

Now… that we are anticipating some good news, it’s just so nice to wake up and greet a new day. One week after Pres. Obama’s victory party, tomorrow, Nov 11 is yet another victorious day for all of us and our heroes. Its the Veteran’s Day.

I looked for some tribute in YouTube and here’s what I found. The rest of the show will be aired tomorrow.

Still, please don’t forget our veterans and continue to pray for our troops.

What About Them? – Women Exeriencing Sexual Trauma

I was reading the news just this morning when I spotted one article from http://afp.google.com with an alarming headline – Female US veterans suffer sexual trauma: study.

This is not new yet still very alarming since I’m also a woman. I don’t know how and what exactly they are going through but I truly feel for them.

here’s an excerpt of the release.

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Nearly 15 percent of female US veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan experienced sexual trauma during their military service, the Department of Veterans Affairs said in a study.

The study, based on data from 100,000 veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom who used VA health care, found that more than one in seven women reported having experienced “military sexual trauma”.
